Nothing burns like the cold, my grandpa use to tell me. It’s cold, and wind is going right through us. But there are still some people who have the affection so bad that they bear the weather to feel that thump, thump, pull. And some people, like Rick, need to try out new products.

Rick is owner of Brouwer Baits. Best way to look at his product is to get on Facebook and look up Rick Brouwer to view some of his beautiful artwork. He customizes crankbaits and jerkbaits, and paints them in an awesome array of colors. He’ll custom paint one just for you.

Two years ago, I put in a special order of gold with a black back in a jerkbait, and that was my secret lure for walleye and trout that year and the next. On his website, you’ll be able to see the different colors and the different fish he’s been catching on Beaver Lake.

I do believe the next seven lures I’m gonna order are going to be in pink minnow color. He did great on the lake with those the week before last. I have some in several colors and they all work well. I believe it’s the action that it makes in the water. I have caught walleye, trout, white bass, and smallmouth on the ones I have.  Rick also makes them in different sizes. He’s is in the Pea Ridge area and usually puts in at the ramps at Prairie Creek or Hwy. 12.

Rick can be reached at  (479) 531-2985, or you can purchase them at Hook Line & Sinker in Rogers.

Fair-weather anglers stay home on snowy days, but hard-core anglers know it’s worth the trouble to bear the wet and cold because snow activates fish. A snowstorm affects largemouth and all fish the same way a rainstorm does during the warmer months. Low pressure systems with clouds that darken the skies turn bass on.

I hope this week everybody has a chance to at least get outside. Nature is such a wonderful thing it can heal our souls.
