This week we had beautiful sunshine but chilly winds. A good outfitter told me one time it’s never bad weather just bad clothing, so get out there and get it on.

At Roaring River, Missouri, a daily trout tag goes from March 1 to October 31. The tag is $4 for adults and $3 for 15 and younger. Trout tags and permits can be purchased at the park. From November through February catch-and-release season the annual trout permit replaces the daily trout tag.

Until February 12, 2024. trout fishing is allowed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays through Mondays. Catch-and-release only. (Fishing permit and annual trout permit required.) Allowed lures are flies only.

Starting March 1 there’s a limit: of 4 of all species combined. You must stop fishing after you have 4 trout in your possession.

With a deep, narrow valley surrounded by a striking and rugged landscape, Roaring River State Park is one of Missouri’s more popular state parks. It has a lot of history and thoughtful landscaping.

Doc Sayman, a wealthy medicine-show man from St. Louis tried to persuade the state’s Game & Fish Commission to buy the property. When this was unsuccessful because of lack of funds, he purchased 2,400 acres of land surrounding Roaring River Spring and turned it over to the state. Roaring River State Park was born.

It is a must see if you’re this close. We’re only about 30 minutes away. The drive is worth it whether you’re fishing or sightseeing. Roaring River State Park is one of three state parks stocked with rainbow trout.

The setting makes everything more fun, and the park has seven hiking trails.

Roaring River State Park consists of 4,093 acres 8 miles south of Cassville in Barry County. The park offers fishing on the Roaring River, and the seasonally open Ozark Chinquapin Nature Center. The original park was acquired in 1923 and developed between 1933 and 1939 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration. Even if you’re not fishing, it’s a new unique park to stroll through.
