The water in Swepco lake always stays around 70° all year long even in the dead of winter and that’s why a lot of anglers like to hit it in the winter. The reason is the Flint Creek Power Plant, which sets on the east shore of 500-acre lake, situated just west of Gentry. Water is drawn from the reservoir to create steam in the production of electricity. It flows back into the lake at about 100°.

I have always gone over there personally to bass fish, and it’s been some nice ones.

Black bass are the most sought after fish at Swepco Lake, but anglers can catch other species. The lake holds a healthy population of sunfish, including redear, bluegill and green sunfish. Channel catfish and flathead catfish can also be caught.

The weather is a little bit nippy, so we have been starting our trips these days around 10 o’clock. Fish are just like us humans, some actually eat all day long.

Xieng Chanthavong’s motto is “No more wishin’, let’s go fishin’.” He had told me, “We didn’t have any trips today, so I invited five of my friends to go catfishing, but four of them didn’t show up so Cecil Lewis and I went out anyways. Released some bigger fish for seeds. Double limit in about an hour.”

I feel so privileged that I get to go out this week with him. Happy fishing and if you need any help getting out onto a body of water if it’s a sightseeing tour for wildlife or catching a memory and a fish of the lifetime, give us a call at Custom Adventures Guide Service.
