Well, the season is upon us. Our dedicated fishing people will continue to keep fishing rods in their hands while others trade off rods for deer hunting gear.
Modern Gun deer hunting season starts this weekend, Nov. 11 until Dec. 3 and Dec. 26 – 28. Although archery and muzzle loading has already started, it seems to be more concentrated with hunters and big ammo during modern gun deer season.
During this time of the year, I encourage everyone who is going to be hiking, walking in the woods, tracking through the woods to get to your favorite fishing hole or walking your dog, to wear bright clothing or hunter orange. Even at this time of year I put a hunter orange jacket on my hound dog just to let him out to run.
All outdoorsy people really should wear blaze orange now. Also, this is best time of the year to hit your favorite warm water creeks and farm ponds.
Cold water enzymes that digest the food a fish eats are very slow acting. Therefore, it takes quite a while for a fish’s meal to be completely utilized, and the fish are inactive in colder temperatures. Last week and the rest of this week is a great time to get out and hit family farm ponds like Chuck did when he caught this healthy largemouth bass.
You can use a spinnerbait, might be a crankbait, sometimes a chatterbait, frequently a jerkbait, seldom a buzz bait and often is a plastic worm. What is a guarantee is that right before dark, a topwater bait is the bomb. Tiny torpedo is my preference, clear in color.
Try to work it all the way into the bank. A lot of times the hit is after they followed it all the way in. Bam! The excitement is the unknown of if you haven’t experienced it before.
