I really hope everybody had a great week. I hit the Kings River with my flyrod, and my dogs got to run at Stony Point Access out from Grandview. We had the place all to ourselves.

The hot fly was a small olive woolly booger, with a little bit of flash. The Kings River is very low right now so not great for floating, but for wade fishing, it’s perfect. Hit the deep holes before and after riffles in the river. Other good things to use in the Kings River if you’re not fly fishing is jointed Rapala silver with black back; Rooster Tails white with a red head; and tube jigs, watermelon color. Any live bait is a guarantee – nightcrawlers, minnows, crawfish, shrimp.

Then, later in the week, I moved over to the White River, and had a friend who wanted to come fishing but didn’t want to buy an Arkansas trout permit. He had a WRL license, which means it’s only good from Houseman Access toward Table Rock Lake. Fishing between Houseman and Beaver Dam requires an Arkansas trout permit.

We left from Houseman and headed towards Table Rock Lake, and guess what – it’s really not the right time of year for trout to bite in the river, but they’re still lingering around walleye.  Trolling crank baits or dragging bottom bouncers with nightcrawlers is the ticket. When you head out from Housman going towards Missouri, you really don’t know what you’re going to catch.

As you go on down the river, which seems like up, the water only gets warmer when it turns into the lake. Actually, the hotspot is if you can find where the warm water meets the cold water. Live bait is key there. This is when you need a good depth finder that tells you the temperature.

Or have a good guide who can take you where you need to be on the river. If you need help getting out there call Custom Adventures Guide Services at (479) 244-5259, we do fishing guide and sightseeing trips.
