I was told that you can’t catch fish if you’re sitting on the couch, so I went fishing with my friend from Missouri, Danny, on the White River. Trout were jumping in the boat. The first hole we caught four keepers before the trout caught on to us, so we moved to the next spot, and three more keepers.
We used Power Bait white/sunrise. We did well, but suddenly it shut off and there was no more bite. I added a nightcrawler injected with air that’s always my go-to on the White River. That didn’t work, so then we pulled out something I had in the hatch, Pautzke Fire Gel trout formula.

We used fire gel trout scented. They have a garlic and a shrimp scent that I know would work on trout.
There are several guides on the river who swear by it. If I’m not mistaken, they sell it at Riverview Resort and Beaver Dam Store. If not order it online prices are the same and it’s worth it.. It was amazing. What we were using was just for trout, but again they make all kinds of products for all kinds of fish ours was a gel that you can put on your Power Bait or you can put it on your lures and it’s a big attraction the fish.
Further downriver, we caught the generation, and drift fished. When the water is rising the fish get very active for a brief moment, but if you’re riding with a generation, it stays consistent.
With the river as low it is , I think bank fishing is your best in the mornings.
