I hope everybody had a wonderful week and was able to get out and enjoy some of this beautiful weather. On the White River, Southwestern Power Administration is running water at the dam in the late afternoons. That makes the fishing really good early in the morning. First thing around sunup has been the best, as the early morning bite is the ticket.

And we also need to keep in mind to start preparing for fall fishing as the water temperature cools. Bank fishing or wading fishing still has been very good for trout on the White River. The river is slow and low right now, so it’s harboring pockets of fish. If you can walk into one of the many accesses, you can find you a pool of them.

If you choose to flyfish for trout, here are the flies that I’ve been hearing are working well Woolly Buggers in olive, black or brown, cerise and hot pink, San Juan Worms, and Y2Ks.

For our conventional anglers, powerbait in sunrise and white color, nightcrawlers injected with air, or a tiny piece of shrimp are all working well. For lures, it’s been the Colorado spoon. Use half golden and half silver, in whatever size you’re comfortable throwing, or a size 5 flicker shad in red and gold or shad color.

Here is a really pretty rainbow caught by Dwayne Fletcher from Pea Ridge. He snagged this 21-incher close to the Highway 62 bridge, using rainbow Powerbait. He was out in the boat with Benjamin Jarman who owns Ozarks Full Stringers Guide Service. Look them up on Facebook for more great pictures like this one you won’t be disappointed, he’s very personable.
