I hope everyone had a wonderful week and was able to get outside and enjoy some of this sunshine.

Howard “Rip” Collins caught a 40-pound, four-ounce world record brown on the Little Red River in 1992… a mark that stood until 2009.

After seeing this picture of Rich Arnold from Ida, Louisiana, it makes me want to take a ride down to the Little Red, located mid-Arkansas He was drift-fishing a Pheasant Tail soft hackle alongside the moss beds in the deep water of the Little Red when this nice brown trout decided to take his fly while he was fishing with guide Mike Winkler. Beautiful fish.

The Little Red River, emerging icy cold from beneath massive dam at Greers Ferry Lake, is a premier-class trout stream. Trout were introduced to the Little Red in 1966, some three years after completion of the lake project.

Rainbows, browns and cutthroats are caught for some 35-river miles below the dam. The Little Red offers 29 miles of ideal trout habitat below Greers Ferry Dam at Heber Springs.

The trout fishing stretch of the Little Red is those 29 river miles from Greers Ferry Dam to Pangburn. Full service marinas and resorts are available along the upper sections of the river. Public and resort launch areas are conveniently located on both sides of the river. Attractions in the area include the William Carl Garner/Corps of Engineers Visitor Center, with hiking trails overlooking the river and trout hatchery. Plus, of course, boating and fishing.

It’s definitely a place I want to go check out soon. I have been there one time before, but it’s been a very long time. I think I’m due. We have plenty of beautiful waters here around us, but it’s always nice to go out and explore.
