Beaver Lake is the hotspot right now. All species are awake and walleye are starting to be caught pretty well on trolled bottom bouncers or on drop-shot crawlers. Look around the islands and points. Inclined gravel bars.

Largemouth bass are fair, biting randomly. They are best from daybreak until up around 9 a.m., then again from 7 to 9 at night. Topwater at night.

Meanwhile, local anglers are catching lots of catfish on jugs, trotlines and noodles and they’re using nearly anything for bait. I really like to use shrimp, nightcrawlers or livers, and the best I’ve ever done on is small perch. Some people have done well on hotdogs and soaking a mixture of Kool-Aid and cut up chicken breast.

Whether you use trotline, noodles, jugs, or rod and reel it’s really fun and it’s really good right now.

The picture we have this week is Cecil Lewis of Pea Ridge who is part of the team with Hook on Fishing LLC. Mostly known for their Striper Guide service on Beaver Lake they have a multiple species guide service and their motto is, “No more wishin’, let’s go fishin’.”

Cecil had a trip scheduled that morning, but the clients cancelled because of the storm. He decided to fish some new areas in between the storm and hooked 2 almost at the same time. He managed to get this 26-pounder in, but the 2nd fish snapped his line. He was slow trolling live bream in the thermocline over treetops in deep coves.

That last minute cancellation turned out great!
