I’m hoping everybody had a great Father’s Day. The weather was perfect.

Our picture this week is Jackson Butt with a nice Illinois River hybrid caught on topwater. The Illinois River begins in the Ozark Mountains in the northwest corner of Arkansas (Washington County) and flows west into northeast Oklahoma. It also holds some large smallmouth – I caught my largest smallmouth on the Illinois River.

Jackson Butt owns and operates Kings River Guide Service, Kingsriverguide.com. You have to look up his website and check out some of his photographs of wildlife and fishing. He offers an array of service, fly fishing, traditional gear, wading, canoe/kayak, jet boat, lessons, smallmouth bass, walleye, streamer fishing for trout, night fishing. Photography/videography of your experience is part of the deal. (That’s worth it right there if you’ve seen his work.)

Beaver Lake has been good on topwater striper fishing for two weeks in a row. Have to hit it super early, use large baits.

Hybrids look a lot like white bass, but they grow larger than white bass, weighing up to five pounds more at times. The back of the tongue of a hybrid has either one distinct tooth patch or two patches very close together. The tongue of a white bass has a heart-shaped tooth patch, and the tongue of a striped bass has two distinct parallel tooth patches.

Hybrid striped bass are a cross of white and striped bass. It was first produced in South Carolina in 1965, using eggs from striped bass and sperm from white bass. Hybrid is also known as a Wiper.

Below Beaver Dam on the Beaver tailwater/White River fishing has been good the last week-and-a-half because they’re not generating until mid-afternoon. Great for bank fishing or wade fishing.

Give me a call at Custom Adventures Guide Service if you need to get out on the water. Sightseeing or fishing, let us know how we can help you.  (479) 244-5259
