I am happy to bring you the fishing report this week. This past weekend we had some people staying with us at Sugar Ridge Resort overlooking Beaver Lake, who wanted to do a little fishing on the White River with some of their kiddos.

Stephen and Elizabeth Smith, with their four boys, plus Elizabeth`s twin sister, Sarah, and her husband and their two kids, all came here from Holly Springs, Mississippi. Pictured here is the group of fishermen and the other picture is of Stephen and Elizabeth’s oldest son, Gus.

I wasn’t available to help them so on that day. So once again, I called in the troops, Benjamin Jarman with Ozark Full Stringers Guide Service ozarksfullstringers.com or check out on Facebook for more pictures of this trip. Since there where more than one boatload, he called on Golden Gate Guide Service and Travis Lester. Both of these guys can put you on the fish and multiple species at that.

“It was a family getaway to relax and have some fun for the long weekend,” Stephen said. He also added they had a great time all weekend.

My favorite time of the year to fish the Beaver Tailwater–White River is the middle of March to the 1st of May, because the walleye and white bass travel up the river to spawn. I think they have made it early this year. I think it has to do with these warmer days we have had, tricking them into spawn time.

I like trolling crankbaits, this helps you cover more water plus during that time of the year you really don`t have any idea what you will be pulling out of the water. That`s exciting to me.

Beaver Lake is still producing crappie from 12 – 20 ft. deep. On brush piles, use a jig and minnow, and even just a jig would work this time of year. You just have to find them and work them.

Well, whatever you decide to do just enjoy these pretty days outdoors.
