Fishing has been so good in almost all areas. Last week we talked about the White River that flows out of Beaver Lake. This week it’s all about Beaver Lake.

In March of this year, Arkansas Game & Fish Commission tagged 250 stripers. Each tag has a number to call. If you want to release the fish, just cut the tags off of the fish and return the fish to the water. When you call the number on the tags and answer a few questions, AG&F will give you an address to mail in the tag. Once AG&F gets the tag and data, you will receive $100.

That`s just what Mike Henry from Washburn, Mo., did. Pictured here is his 11-pound $100 fish. He was in the dam area trolling live bait. He fishes Beaver Lake year ‘round. I think he has a little addiction, but don’t we all?

The fish that were tagged were put back in the water around the Rocky Branch area. It has been very interesting to see where these fish get caught. I have had reports of fish moving up to 20+ miles from their tagging location, also one being caught in the North Fork River in Missouri, about 51 miles from where it was tagged!

They migrate. Tag reports have been excellent… all fish received two tags, and only one fish has been reported with only one tag present. The reason for the high reward is that they are tagging a low number of fish and want all of the caught fish with tags returned. The Striped Bass Tag Reward Study is being conducted on Beaver, Norfork, and Ouachita lakes.
