Another great week of weather this past week. Whether it’s hiking, biking, running, photography, kite flying, fishing or hunting, get out and take advantage of the open fresh air in our beautiful Ozarks. Also remember to wear something bright in color because it is archery season for deer here in this area.

Hot news on Beaver Lake is crappie. Lots of reports of crappie. Pictured here is Lance Hughey from Lowell, Ark and Mike Jones from south Fayetteville teamed up to catch a bucket load on Beaver Lake.

Lance told me of a technique he was using called slow vertical trolling – what many anglers refer to as spider rigging – that has been really productive for him. He said vertical trolling (slow trolling) works better in depths of 8 feet or more.

He said was right at 8 feet, trolling only 2-2.5 mph. This setup involves six to eight rods spread evenly across the bow of the boat. Each rod can be rigged with different jigs and minnows, tandem hooks on each line, in different combinations.

White River is low. But fun on foot in the mornings before the Corps generates because they are all in pockets, gathered up and hungry. They seem to be hitting real well on night crawlers and powerbait in orange, sunrise or pink.

Orange anything is good right now even rooster tails, jigs, and swimbaits.

As far as fly fishing, small orange or peach eggs have been very effective. Double-fly nymph rigs have done well, a pheasant tail nymph with a ruby midge dropper. Or play with it and mix it up. White mop fly has been kickin’ it also.

If you need help getting your adventure planned out just give us a call at Custom Adventures Guide Service (479) 363-9632. We also offer guided fishing trip on the White River for trout, also sightseeing trips on the river or the lake.

Leaves have started to turn and this is our busiest time of the year for sightseeing trips, so call ahead of time to insure your slot. Have a great week and take a kid outdoors and get them off the couch.
