Having REEL Fun

Another week and another big fish. Custom Adventures team member Richard Lee Rusher took his good friend Vince McCurdy out to explore new options and new adventures and boy did they score.

Switching it up a little, they hit Beaver Lake. This picture is of Vince hitting some evening time top water explosion on the lake, and again, it`s being in the right place at the right time. This takes some experience and a willingness to change it up.

They said in the mix of stripers were a few nice smallmouth. All fish were caught in a small-time frame right at daylight and early evening. I think I know where I’ll be this week.

The generation gods were good to us this week on the Beaver tailwater. White River flyfishing reports were good. Everything from zebra midges and soft hackles. Egg patterns and mop flies have also been productive. Double-fly nymph rigs have also been very effective. Try a pheasant tail size 14 below a San Juan worm. The fishing is better in the morning.

Conventional fishing has been grand, also. Try using nightcrawlers as big browns are lurking. Powerbait colors changed up this week to pink and white combo with a wax worm. Paste Powerbait color was rainbow.

I’m one of those anglers who loves to switch up and fish for a variety of species if I can. I also like to use different methods to catch fish. I primarily fish with artificial lures but do use live bait now, and trolling is also not out of the question. I love to fly fish mainly for smallmouth, but also love using ultralight outfits for most everything.
