Goodnight items from Feb. 13 council meeting

  • Council voted to table discussion of the Municipal League’s Code of Conduct until the next meeting so aldermen can have a chance to look through it.
  • Aldermen approved the first two readings of Ordinance 2252, which describes the land swap proposed last year by Barbara Dicks.
  • In Public Comments, Barbara Kumpe offered the services of the Arkansas Tobacco Control Board to educate citizens about the dangers of e-cigarettes. She said e-cigarette advertising is directed at youth, and her agency is ready to help.
  • Also in Public Comments, Trella Laughlin urged Eureka Springs to become a sanctuary city. “We are all immigrants,” she noted. She said Immigration Customs Enforcement has been breaking into homes and sending people back to Mexico and Syria. She maintained ICE would have to go through her to get undocumented people she knows. “We should live with love,” she said.
  • Council unanimously approved the Auditorium management agreement between the city and the City Advertising and Promotion Commission.
  • Armstrong invited alderman to stop by her office for a peek at the 2016 4th quarter financials.
