You can learn to live better, move better and feel better at the Abundant Health Wellness Center’s Essentials for Health Wellness Weekend, 240 Huntsville Road, (across from Acord’s Home Center) on April 27-29. And it’s free. Organizer Dana West, RDN, LD, said the goal is to help people take charge of their health to prevent the progression and complications of many severe and devastating chronic diseases.

“Come be inspired,” West said. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in dietetics in 1997 and for more than 20 years has been devoted to helping people prevent, treat and reverse chronic diseases through diet and lifestyle choices. “You can reverse chronic lifestyle-related diseases naturally. This is a free event without any gimmicks or sales, only natural prevention methods available to everyone. Essentials for Health Wellness Weekend presents medical and health professionals to share how you can take back your health and start enjoying life again.”

West said it’s possible to prevent, treat, and even reverse many chronic diseases people suffer from in this country, including pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, high cholesterol and triglycerides, and other chronic degenerative diseases.

West said the weekend is designed to help people struggling with heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes or weight management. Or it can be for people who want to improve overall well being, reduce or eliminate medication, look better and sleep better.

The workshop starts Friday at 6 p.m. and will include West’s presentation, Essentials for Health, followed by how to avoid cardiovascular disease by Al Cairus, MD. Cairus graduated from the Buenos Aires medical school Post Graduate Program in 1957 and did the first three kidney transplants in Argentina. He practiced as a heart and general surgeon at Central Texas Medical Center in Austin, where he was a pioneer in robotic surgery.

Saturday’s schedule begins at 9:30 a.m. with a presentation Moving Towards a Happy Body by Carol Brown, MBS, MA, MTI. Carol has worked as a massage therapist in Eureka Springs for the past 30 years on clients honing her massage/body work skills. Prior to her massage business she taught and directed in elementary education.

At 11 a.m. there will be a presentation by Omie Mills, MD, on the Mind-Body Connection. Mills completed her fellowship in dermatopathology at the University of Massachusetts, and received her medical degree at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California. She is currently studying to be board certified in Lifestyle Medicine, is the co-founder of Abundant Health Wellness Center, and is an award-winning researcher.

At 3 p.m. participants will take a walk at the future Abundant Health live-in retreat.

There will be a presentation at 6 p.m. Saturday by Neil Mullins, MD, One Nation Under Pressure. Mullins practiced family medicine for 45 years. He now is an international health presenter who helps people improve their health through natural means. He has lectured on health in Ukraine, Bulgaria, Greece, Africa, Cuba, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, and the Galapagos Island.

At 7:30 Nancy Riedesel, RN, will give a presentation The Rest of Your Life. Riedesel has had a love for teaching healthful living skills for more than 30 years. She loves sharing knowledge with those who want to learn about a healthier way of life, better foods, and how to effectively live within the essentials of health.

Sunday West will give an 10 a.m. talk, A Pharmacy on Your Plate, followed by a cooking demonstration at 11:30 a.m.
