Planning Chair Ann Sallee proposed last Tuesday sending an ordinance to city council to restrict fundraising car washes to existing car wash locations. Commissioners had received copies of articles concerning the amount of pollution entering the storm water system from these fundraising events.
Commissioners noted the importance of car washes to youth groups and others, but said the threat to the environment outweighed those concerns. A commercial car wash has grease filters in its drains.
Sallee said an ordinance would still allow people to wash their car in their driveway.
