This Saturday, Dec. 7, be at Chelsea’s for the Skinny Gypsies Farewell Show. Longtime bass player, Alan Vennes, who set the standard for “Gypsy” bass in the ‘90s, is leaving. The Skinny Gypsies, Chris Bradley, Gates Magoo, Bone and Alan played in the dead of winter 25 years ago when only six or 18 people could get to Chelsea’s in the snow and ice. Their Irish-themed, fast-paced music is a tradition every St. Pat’s, every hot summer evening when people just needed to work off some dance fever, and every afternoon or evening when they just felt like it. Show is from 4 – 7, at least.
