Ethics complaint dismissed

On November 22, the Arkansas Ethics Commission heard complaints and allegations made by Gia and Daniel Voorheis against Holiday Island Mayor Dan Kees. The commission examined city records and were concerned about Kees using the city credit card to pay for a letter sent to Holiday Island residents.

It was noticed by the city treasurer that the card had been used improperly and pointed that out to Kees, who reimbursed the $142.19. The couple also argued that there had been other reimbursements for phone and Internet services that were paid by the city to Kees. Postings and financials about these items were taken down from the City of Holiday Island website, causing the Voorheises to suspect fraud and send a complaint to the Ethics Commission.

On examining the evidence and discussing the complaints, the commission voted 3-0 to dismiss the case as they believed that what Kees had done was a mistake, not an intentional act, and they found no evidence of Kees receiving special privileges.
