Edgar Shaffer Schneider, 91, passed away on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, at his home in Holiday Island, Ark. He was born March 6, 1928, in Van Nuys, Calif., to George Gustav and Bertha Louella (Shaffer) Schneider.
Ed had a great sense of humor and was a very loving person. He married his sweetheart, Myrtle “Tootie,” only 4 weeks to the day after their meeting. Due to his military service, the family moved all over the world.
Ed served in the US Air Force during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam and achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Ed belonged to several community service organizations such as Elks Lodge #1042 of Holiday Island, the VFW, and Walker-Wilson American Legion Post #9. He was Holiday Island’s first Commissioner and was the Holiday Island Fire Chief for 22 years.
He loved animals, especially his dog, Izzy.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother George Schneider; and sister Helena Louise Taft.
He is survived by his wife Myrtle “Tootie” Schneider of Holiday Island, Ark.; two sons, Steven Schneider and wife, Mickey, of Eureka Springs, Ark., and Gregory Schneider and wife, Vicki, of Holiday Island, Ark.; sister Patricia Joy and husband, Ralph, of Morro Bay, Calif.; six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service was December 2, at the Eureka Springs Cemetery in Eureka Springs, Ark. Memorial donations may be made to the VFW Post 77, PO Box 3201, Holiday Island, AR 72631 or Walker-Wilson American Legion Post #9, PO Box 644, Eureka Springs, AR 72632.
