Dropping a Line

603

Well, the best pic I can give you this week is another sunset. First time since March that I’ve gone a week without being on the water.

Everybody’s catching fish now and all excited about the water temp going into the 60s with fish hitting the top. My fishing buddy, Johnny, released nine stripers just a couple days ago and got them all by throwing a big top water chugger.

Best striper fishing on Beaver Lake now is keeping your eyes open and watching for big schools of fish busting the top and hitting shad from the surface down to 18 ft. deep. Beaver Lake is so big that you can see them over a mile away when they chase the bait to the top. Best times are early and late in the day when the sun is low, and if it’s a cloudy day with light winds they might just play all day.

Point 4 to the Rocky Branch area is active because that’s where all the shad they’re chasing have moved. Most talk on Beaver Lake fishing is that what’s best is a big chugger or Zara Spook, and when they will move into the Prairie Creek area for the winter. They probably will stay close to where they’re are now until the water temp gets closer to the 50s, which should be sometime after Thanksgiving.

So, thanks to deer season I have a lot of open days for November and with this water temp, afternoons are putting fish in the boat. Same here at Holiday Island, but it’s spotted bass and whites that are hitting the top, and a lot of big crappie being caught on jigs and minnows, along with walleye in the main channel down about 12 – 15 ft. deep.

Well, it’s a nice day and I need to go catch some shad so I might just have to go after some of those crappie. If I get a big walleye that will just make me smile bigger.
