Dropping a Line

Mark Moss from Fayetteville, Ark., had a visit from Eddie and Donna Moss from Russellville to go out on a fishing trip for stripers on Beaver Lake Saturday.

Dad caught our biggest fish so far this year, which will be going on their wall. She’s a big girl at 43 inches with a girth of 26 inches and a weight close to 40 lbs. It took all three to hold her up for a pic.

Water temp was creeping up to 49°. We caught this one in a brood shiner down about 24 ft. deep, but we also caught on a freeline behind the boat.

So it looks like we have four days of spring rains with a couple days coming that will hit 70°, looks like that warm water will flow those temps above 50°, then the run is on and the weights come off. Here comes Spring Break with a hot bite with the sun.

Here at Holiday Island the walleye run is in full swing with white bass in a lot of the same water. Best places to look are from the Island as far upriver as you can go.

Hearing good reports also from the Kings River arm of Table Rock. Sounds like the hot spot is just below the Hwy. 86 bridge to the state line.

Best way to catch both species is to troll, then drop a jig and minnow or just throw whatever looks like a shad that will get down to them. After this week start looking for crappie to be moving up into that shoreline brush as their spawn gets closer.

Start looking for bass in the shallows where the water will be warming faster with the sun’s help, just throw some shallow crankbaits and you should hookup with one.

Well that’s it for this week. Enjoy the spring break. That means school’s out so let a kid enjoy it with you.
