Dropping a Line

What happened to winter? No complaints here. I’m ready to rock and roll on some fish, and it looks like the rest of March is about the same as this upcoming week which has just about all days running from our highs in the 50s, 60s and even a bit of the 70s popping in a day or two.

Well, today is Tuesday and the first day of the start of 3 trips this week so I should have a picture of a fish or two for you in next week’s report. I’ve been giving trips away due to my fingers and toes not liking the cold but that’s over now and I’m back on the water.

As you can see in the picture this week, I’ve been busy working on getting the Market Place Store open which will open this month with a coffee bar, apparel, art and decor.

As April comes in I should have my guide and tackle shop located down below, where we can get you out with whatever kind of fishing you like with me or another local guide. Down below we will also have some local crafts and the Red Eye shop right here in the heart of Eureka.

I got my sign so here’s a pic with our second boat which belongs to my cousin, Keone, and I thank him and his mom, Elise, for bringing me in on this new venture. Can’t wait to meet my followers and talk some fish in person.

OK, here’s a bit of fish talk before I head to the lake after some stripers. We all know the walleye spawn is on I suggest you put in at Holiday Island and troll upriver with crankbaits that run 9 – 14 ft. deep. Beavertown area still seems to be the hot spot, and you’ll probably come across some white bass and trout as you move upstream.

Crappie are still running deep, but on sunny afternoons some are reporting catching as shallow as 5 ft. in the shoreline brush near their spawning areas. Beaver Lake stripers are hot from the Prairie Creek area upriver, still holding down in that 20 – 30 ft. range.

There’s a lot if bait in this area all wanting to go upriver to spawn, so look for the big balls and fish arches in your graph then drop down some big shiners where they’re at and hang on.

Roaring River Park opened March 1 which is the start of the fishing season here in the Ozarks, so get your tackle ready and get a line wet. Till next week enjoy the sun, as the fish will be doing, for spring has sprung and it’s time for some fun.
