Dropping a Line

Well, it looks like March just might bring in the spring a little faster than usual. Coming in like a lamb and going out like a lamb, I hope.

A lot of white bass are being caught already by the ones searching for walleye up the river arms. The white all the way up into the Beaver Tailwaters is the Number 1 spot to be now.

Another hot spot is the Kings on the Missouri side. Getting reports of some bigger female walleye being caught from Hickory Hollow resort to as far up as the Arkansas line about 1/2 a mile after the Hwy. 86 bridge.

The closest place to get your boat in to get up there is to go to the Golden Post Office, then go straight on the curve down RA highway till it ends. The launch is rough, but it will work. Some call this Sweetwater, some call it Kings River Access.

Here up the White you might be able to get in at Beavertown, but you can always get in at Holiday Island and this way you can check out the flats the Island offers on the way.

Stripers on Beaver Lake are being caught mostly now from Prairie Creek Park upriver to Horseshoe Bend. They are still running about 30 ft. deep and it seems a lot of big cream fish (bass) are swimming with them.

Shiners are the best bait now. They are all fat with little 1-inch shad, so they’re hitting the bigger schools of bait and not chasing big bait. As the water temp increases next week, I do believe we will start seeing more surface activity.

My boat is almost ready and I have a couple trips next week so I hope she floats so I can get you a big fish for next week. ‘Til then watch for snow today, then they say the warm up starts Thursday, back in the 50s with some 70s coming fast. Get that tackle ready.
