Crescent Spring gonna have a rock show

Three commissioners and Parks Executive Director Scott Miskiel gathered at Crescent Spring on Tuesday, Sept. 6 for an outdoor workshop to discuss future repairs to the wall at the spring, as well as aspirations for the garden.

Miskiel showed commissioners the portion of wall to be repaired, which runs from the spring to the sidewalk leading to the Carnegie Library elevator. He also took time to show where the wall has continued to extend outwards over the existing sidewalk, emphasizing the need for repairs soon.

While the point of the workshop was to establish possible locations of stone benches along the new wall, commissioners took time to clarify the timeline of repairs, which Miskiel said Stacy’s Stone Work, the contractor, said could be completed by early December. They also went over how best to inform the public of the upcoming repairs as well as whether the street would need to be closed at any point. Miskiel said the contractor was working with Public Works due to the need of a new drainage line across the road for water flow.

As for the benches themselves, the two locations possible include underneath where the smaller gazebo that sits between the spring and the library, and the second between that gazebo and the end of the wall. Due to this being a workshop commissioners could not come to a permanent decision, but the topic will be at the next meeting.

The same will be for the second item that was on the workshop’s agenda, which was a hiring committee to seek a new director following Miskiel’s retirement.
