Country with a future

489

Devon Worley was destined to be different, a fact her parents probably realized when at the age of three she grabbed the mic at an event to sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” When she was 11 she won the Colgate Country Showdown with an original she wrote, aided by the frontman of Jug, a three-piece local band. When Jug and Devon Worley joined forces to become The Devon Worley Band, the pre-teen Devon toured throughout her high school years, even leaving prom early for a show. Along with Jason Medvec on guitar, Adam Durand on bass and Grant Thelen on drums, she brings a new country sound that is aggressive, soulful and edgy with a rock-n-roll attitude. “Wrecked and Mended,” the first track on the band’s second release, is genuine and modern, without any bubble-gum pop and what Worley calls the future of country. The live shows are fun-filled with unique segues and mash-ups of songs, that rock influence really apparent. You can catch on of those shows at Brews on Friday at 7 p.m.
