Council leftovers

Final items discussed at city council on August 27 included:

  • Mayor Butch Berry announced there were vacancies on the Planning, Cemetery, Hospital and City Advertising and Promotion Commissions.
  • Council approved Resolution 736, the mid-year budget adjustment.
  • Alderman Bob Thomas announced there will be a workshop on Robert’s Rules of Order on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 6–7:30 p.m., in the Auditorium. The event will be after the election and is intended for all aldermen, commissioners and directors.
  • City Clerk/Treasurer Ann Armstrong presented the 2nd Quarter financials. She said the documents live in her office, and people are welcome to stop by if they want to drill down into details of the city’s financials.
  • Ord. 2272, which amended Code regarding Planned Unit Developments, passed on its third reading.
  • The issue regarding alleged damage to the vehicle belonging to Larry Burkett was dropped from the agenda because Burkett failed to appear for the second time.
  • Berry reported a structural engineer seems to have resolved the problem with the elevator location, and Berry hoped to present costs for council to consider at the next meeting for installing either of two kinds of elevators in the basement of the Auditorium. This would be in preparation for creating a permanent meeting place for city meetings.
  • Alderman Mickey Schneider said there would be a Meet the Candidates event Sept. 20, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Auditorium.

Next meeting will be Monday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m.
