On December 3, 2024, Christopher Maxwell Fischer passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at age 67.
Born on November 21, 1957, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Chris studied art at Washington University and Tulane University. He married his wife of 27 years, Mary Rhodes Tait, on May 24, 1997, with whom he created a life in New Orleans before moving to Eureka Springs, Arkansas, in 2005.
Chris had a varied career as a multimedia artist, landscaper, arborist, grant writer, and project coordinator. A prolific draftsman, painter, found object artist, and photographer, his art was displayed in galleries in New Orleans and Eureka Springs.
Chris dedicated his life to advocating for the environment and resource management, and was a knowledgeable naturalist and dedicated volunteer at the Eureka Springs Native Plant Garden Project.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents Frank Philip Fischer, Jr., and Jean Zeigler Fischer.
He is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Indigo Eleanor Fischer, stepson James Devereux Tait, and brothers Mark Philip Fischer (Valerie) and Steven Arvin Fischer (Karen) and their children.
A celebration of life will be held in Eureka Springs in the spring with a tree planted in his honor.
