Buddy Shute calls Northwest Arkansas home now, but was born and raised in Memphis, one block from Sun Studios. He developed invaluable skills playing the bar scene in Memphis and New Orleans, once joined onstage by Ike and Tina Turner’s band, who wanted to sit in. Over the years, Buddy has played with, opened for and recorded with many great artists including John Hammond, Magic Slim and Otis Taylor to name a few. Two solo CDs have led him to represent the Ozark Blues Society in competition several times.
His last effort, “A Whole Lot Like the Blues,” was recorded with his band The Motivators. Some joyful music is made when Buddy is joined by Mark McGee on harmonica, Brenda Baskin on vocals and percussion, Steve Baskin on bass and Randy Reese on the drums. These cool cats will bring the blues to Chelsea’s on Friday at 9:30 p.m.
