On March 14, The Highlander boys played their second home game, against Lifeway Christian from Centerton. They ended the first half with a one-point lead, making the game 2-1. After a strong start from Eureka, the boys lost the lead and eventually ended the game down 4-2. This was their second non-conference game of the season.

The games on Thursday were marked with strong winds, and the Highlander boys were told by Coach Earl Hyatt to keep the ball on the ground to avoid unintended ball movements. Lifeway Christian came out with a weak defense, leading to an own goal to end the half. They came out after the half with a strong offense.

sophomore and starting goalie for Eureka, Preston Hyatt, played well even with the wind taking the ball in unexpected directions. In the end, lack of communication on the defensive end resulted in Lifeway Christian scoring three goals in the second half. After the game, Coach Hyatt told the team, “We know what to take away from this game. Both the offense and defense can learn from what they did, that’s what losses are for, to learn.”

Both girls’ and boys’ teams will head to Berryville on Monday, March 25. Then the boys will face Lead Hill, for their first home conference game the next day at Leatherwood Field. Following those games, both teams will face Lincoln at home, on Thursday, March 28. Games will start at 5, and admission to Leatherwood field is free to all.
