An applicant from Carroll County earned one of only five statewide permits to cultivate medical marijuana. Osage Creek Cultivation is owned by Jay Trulove, a Berryville resident and business owner,

The Arkansas Medical Marijuana Commission met on Feb. 27, and a crowd lined up to hear which of the 95 applications would top the list. The other successful applicants were located in Jackson, Jefferson, and Woodruff counties.

Among other factors, the commission members weighed location in low-income areas. This facility will have an ongoing impact on the local economy, with comparable facilities employing 50 or more people.

Osage Creek will have to pay $100,000 and obtain a $500,000 performance bond within seven days. The commission is still working on applications for dispensaries around the state.

Trulove and his wife, Mary, own and operate Sports Corner in Berryville. The proposed site is on Clark Road, in the southwest part of Berryville. Mayor Tim McKinney issued a statement congratulating Trulove on his selection. McKinney said Trulove “put a lot of hard work, time and money into the selection process.”

The mayor said he spoke with Trulove during the application process, and was impressed with the amount of research Trulove had conducted regarding the uses of medical marijuana. The statement concluded with the mayor’s expectation that Trulove would operate the facility in a responsible and professional manner.
