Carolyn Morgan of Eureka Springs, Ark., was born on March 3, 1954, in Summit, New Jersey, to Charles and Margaret (Davis) Morgan. Carolyn passed away Friday, December 15, 2023, at her home in Eureka Springs at age 69.
Carolyn was a passionate person.
She was passionate about dirt… she found joy in building it, touching it, its smell and texture. She made herbal tinctures and salves, and last but not least, the end result, food, fresh and bright that she birthed and plated. Carolyn was a medicine woman.
She was passionate about travel, spending endless hours researching cultures, customs and lands around the world that interested her, from ritualistic saunas with the Lakotas to sleeping in thatched huts on the shores of Myanmar. Her gravitational pull was to the sea, returning with as many seashells as she could get in her backpack and fit in her pockets. Her photographs were works of art.
Carolyn was brave.
She was passionate about color, texture, design… a quilter, painter, weaver. She worked with fabric, batiking, stamp printing, tie-dying, and mixed media freestyle collaging. The list goes on. Never really selling her work, she simply loved the learning the discovery, she loved the process.
Carolyn was an artist.
She was passionate about her family and friends, always putting other people first, looking for the best possible outcome, offering practical, sage advice. She was a truly caring, spiritual woman.
Carolyn was devoted.
She never lost her kindness, sense of humor, or her stubbornness. She was so full of life and energy. She just wanted to go go go, but… could not.
Carolyn knew her time had come. On that day she called her people to her, she said her goodbyes, and with grace and peace, she passed.
Carolyn, you will forever be a part of who we are. You will forever be remembered loved and missed.
As her dear caregiver, Kristy said, “it was a blessing to meet you, now get to the ocean, leave your clothes behind and get all the seashells you want.”
Carolyn is survived by her creative, enterprising sons, Shaman Hill, Ashley Hill, Travis Graham, and her most beloved and devoted granddaughter, Sayuri Zollmann of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; brother Charles Morgan of Manhattan, New York, and several other relatives and close friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Margaret Morgan.
On Sunday, Jan. 7, there will be an open house at Carolyn’s home, 7 Echols, at 12 noon. Feel free to join in. We will have a full celebration of life later this spring, TBA.
