CAPC all in for Folk Festival

Commissioners met on Monday to discuss the possibility of having a Thursday show for Folk Festival in November, having deferred the topic until then to have Nancy Paddock in attendance.

Paddock went over the scheduling so far with a Saturday night headliner, three acts for three days Friday – Sunday for music in Basin Park.

The Basin Park Hotel is willing to donate the Barefoot Ballroom for the Barefoot Ball, needing only $350 for setup. Paddock said she had also spoken with folk musician Greg Brown and he was willing to have a free show on Thursday.

Paddock said she knew that Brown could be booked for $8,000 and that if they could get funding for a free show on Thursday and the Barefoot Ballroom, it would be a great way to open the Folk Festival.

She also said that Melissa Carper and Johnathan Byrd would play at the Aud on the Friday of Folk Festival for $6,000 total, $3,000 each. In asking for more funds Paddock mentioned that there was money totaling $8,000 from the profits of the 2019 Folk Festival and that she’d need another $5,000 after to be able to have a full weekend.

Paddock also explained that if the CAPC accepts the donation of the Barefoot Ballroom that it gives a good place to host the Hedgehoppers who traditionally have a performance during Folk Festival.

The commission motioned and approved a further $13,000 for the Folk Festival with $8,000 coming from the profit of the 2019 Folk Festival and $5,000 coming from contingency.

The shows scheduled include a free Thursday show, Barefoot Ball, three acts in Basin Park for three days, Friday show at the Aud and the headliner, to be announced.
