Can pets go corona-viral?

There’s no need to be concerned about adopting animals from a shelter during coronavirus precautions. According to GSHS Director of Animal Operations, Cole Wakefield, “The most important thing is that there is no evidence that the virus spreads to or from pets. So being prepared is the best thing we can do for our loved ones.”

To prepare for a worst-case scenario, he advises pet owners to put together a “go bag” for their pets and have a carrier, some food and supplies, toys, any veterinary medicine and paperwork all together. That way, if you have to go to the hospital it will be easy for someone to collect and care for your pet.

In general, anyone can plan ahead with friends, neighbors or family about who will take whose pets should someone get sick or otherwise be unable to care for them. If you can’t make arrangements with friends or family and become hospitalized, Wakefield advises letting the police know and calling the shelter at (479) 253-9188.
