Boys headed to state

The Highlander soccer team had a busy week, with both teams facing back-to-back games on Wednesday and Thursday, April 17-18. On Wednesday, they traveled to Lincoln, to take on the Wolves. The girls’ team fought hard, but lost the game 3-1.

The boys played well, and ended the first half with a 1-0 lead. Following halftime, the Highlander defense held Lincoln to only one goal. The game went in penalty kicks, and goalkeeper Preston Hyatt saved all shots. This was the Highlander boys’ second win against Lincoln.

The team then played against the Green Forest Tigers at home. Green Forest is currently number one in the state 3A conference. Coach encouraged both teams to fight hard, and not to give in. Eureka’s girls’ team held Green Forest to one goal in the first half, but in the end, Green Forest won 5 – 0. The boys’ game went along these lines, with Eureka playing a hard fought first half, and only allowing two goals. In the second half, Green Forest scored three more goals, and Eureka couldn’t connect. The game ended 5-0.

With the win for the boys’ team on Wednesday, the boys’ team has qualified for state and is now playing for placement. Both teams were at home against Decatur at home on Monday, April 22. This was also Eureka’s senior night. On Thursday, April 25, the boys’ team will travel to take on Lead Hill. Come out and support the Highlanders!
