Bob L. Huston of Holiday Island passed on Easter morning, April 1, at age 94.
Public memorial service is Friday, April 27 at 11 a.m., Holiday Island Presbyterian Church.
Bob was born May 18, 1923, El Dorado, Kan., to Jesse Lester and Ina Vera Huston.
Believing God had called him into ministry, Bob attended Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, with graduate studies at Hastings College, Neb., and the American Baptist Seminary of The West, California. Bob was ordained in his home church in Augusta, Kan., in 1947.
He served as pastor in Kansas at Eureka and St. John, and as an Area Minister. Moving to California, Bob served in Bakersfield, Temple City and Lompoc, followed by an ecumenical ministry with Forest Lawn Memorial Parks, serving churches, clergy, and as an adjunct college and seminary professor for 25 years.
Bob became President of the Hollywood Rotary Club and served as District Governor.
He returned to the ministry in Camarillo, before he and his wife, Lil, moved to Holiday Island in 1994. Bob and Lil were charter members of the Holiday Island Community Church. He assisted at the new Holiday Island Presbyterian Church, becoming an ordained elder, and later served as interim pastor for the church. He served as Worship Elder, started the Chancel Choir, and initiated the Columbarium in the Memorial Garden.
Bob was a member of the HI Men’s Golf Association and Old Coots golfers, served as Chaplain of the HI Home Owners Association, and helped organize Habitat for Humanity locally.
Bob is survived by sons Stephen and Philip; Stephen’s wife, Janet; step-daughter Cathy; grandson Evan, Evan’s wife, Jenn, and great-granddaughters Norah, Layla and Hannah.
Bob will be inurned in the church’s Memorial Garden, beside his wife, Lil, who predeceased him in 2004.
