Beverly Landry Schumacher, “Bay,” 91, of Dry Fork Creek Community, passed away at home on July 26, 2021. She was born April 1, 1930, in Freeport, Texas, to Joe and Agnes (Domingue) Landry. Beverly spent her formative years on Surfside Beach, Texas, and in the home of many Cajun aunts and uncles in southwest Louisiana.
Beverly graduated from Freeport High School in 1948 and went to work for the Freeport Sulphur Company. She married Tony Schumacher in 1952. The couple moved to Thibodaux, Louisiana, and later resided in Lafayette and Alexandria, La., where Beverly worked for the Rapides Parish Media Center and School Board. She retired in 1998 after 29 years of service.
After “retirement,” Beverly worked as Communications Manager for St. Martin’s Church in Lecompte, La., where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society. She was a member of Carlow Choir and a volunteer with the Diocese of Alexandria Maryhill Renewal Center. Beverly later moved to Metairie, La., and then to Northwest Arkansas where she spent the last four years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Anthony (Tony) Schumacher; parents, Joseph and Agnes Landry; two brothers, Morris and Edward (Buddy) Landry; one sister-in-law, Anne Landry; one niece, Mary Ellen Swanson; two nephews, Donnie and Marcus Landry.
She is survived by her immediate family; Dru Schumacher, Beth Schumacher, Dane Schumacher and Marcie Brewster; one brother, Earl Landry, and sister-in-law, Ann Landry; three nieces, Margo Burke, Cindy Selman and Gayle Woods; two nephews and spouses, Troy (Aurora) and Christian (Yvonne) Landry, and many grandnieces and nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
Beverly was an avid reader and loved travel-trips. North Carolina, Washington D.C., Alaska, and Ireland were a few of her favorites.
Beverly had friends of all ages and all walks of life – 4-legged ones as well. She never met a stranger. She will be remembered as compassionate, caring, and jovial, and as someone who enjoyed a good laugh and appreciated a good joke. She cried, sad or happy.
The seemingly sudden loss of Beverly has left an emptiness in the hearts of many. However, with each tear shed, the grief unfolds a tapestry rich with memory and celebration of her presence. Beverly lived a good, long life full of family, friends, laughter, love and adventure.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Eureka Springs Mercy Clinic, Springdale Community Clinic, Peachtree Village and Circle of Life Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to a charity of choice in Beverly’s name.
Beverly wished to have her body cremated and her ashes brought back to Texas.
