On February 5, 2024, Beverly (Bev) Jeanne Van Alst passed away at age 87 after a short battle with cancer. Amidst many trials and tribulations, her faith in our Lord and Savior never wavered – she was grateful for every day.
Bev was born May 7, 1936, in Ottumwa, lowa, to Gretna and Earl Mullenix. She married Charles (Chuck) Van Alst in 1951 and shortly thereafter welcomed three beloved children: Danny, Christina, and Linda.
After raising her family in southeast Iowa, Bev moved to Arizona in 1978 and took on a career in real estate appraisal.
In 1999 Bev and Chuck retired to Holiday Island, Arkansas, where she enjoyed time with her children, her extended family, her seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren from both near and far.
She followed Danny and daughter, Linda, to Florida in 2020 and spent her final days peacefully with her son and chickens in Chiefland, Florida. In 2022, she had the immense joy of meeting her first great-great grandchild, who she talked about often, and Gardner, brothers Chuck Mullenix and Clinton Earl Mullenix, and many others she loved dearly.
Bev was a warm and emotionally generous person who made friends with thousands over the years among the places she called home. She will be dearly missed by the many who were touched and shaped by her love in one form or another over her long, blessed lifetime.
A ceremony celebrating Bev’s life and transition will take place on April 27, 11 a.m. at Holiday Island Community Church (188 Stateline Drive, Holiday Island, Arkansas 72631). The family requests that memorial donations be made to Holiday Island Community Church, Bev’s spiritual home, or the Haven Hospice Foundation, 311 NE 9th St, Chiefland, FL 32626 (www.beyourhaven.org/donate).
Preceding Bev in death were her husband Chuck, daughters Christina Ann Davis and Linda Diane.
