Berry wins a third term

Unofficial election results for Carroll County came in late Tuesday night that indicate Butch Berry will serve his third term as mayor of Eureka Springs. Berry was the first mayor to serve a second term since 1990, and won handily with 507 votes, seven fewer than when he won in 2018.

Tracy Johnson tallied 203 votes, meaning there will not be a runoff, and restaurateur Brandon Cox came in third with 137. Beau Satori, whose name was replaced on the ballot with “Disqualified,” got 137 votes.

In city council races, Autumn Slane will keep her seat after snagging 42 more votes than former alderman LauraJo Smole for Ward 1, Position 1. Current alderman Melissa Greene beat former alderman Bob Thomas 527 to 419 for Ward 2 Position 1, and Historic District Commission Chair Steve Holifield crept by incumbent Bill Ott 480 to 458 for Ward 2, Position 2.   

Republican David Writer, foreman of the Carroll County Road Dept., hit 5,191to be Carroll County Judge, besting Democrat Rusty Rusterholz, Jr.’s 2,736 and Independent Kelly Wood’s 1,061.

Republican Bryan King defeated Democrat Jim Wallace, 5,944 to 2, 991 for the District 28 seat of the Arkansas State Senate, and incumbent Republican Harlan Breaux defeated Democrat Markeeta Tucker and Libertarian Dakota Logan to keep his District 6 seat in the State House.

Holiday Island Patrick Elwood beat Brian Tagliaferro 670-374 (Ward 3 Pos. 1).

Justice of the Peace Don McNeely defeated former mayor Charlie Reece for mayor of Green Forest.

In Carroll County, Sara Huckabee Sanders beat Chris Jones 5,679 to 3,152.

Voter turnout in Carroll County was a shade under 60 percent, with 15,156 registered voters and 9,079 votes cast.

Votes will be certified by the county election commission on Nov. 18.
