The Barflies of Dallas are unique in that James “Papa Fly” Curtis compiles accomplished blues musicians from the Dallas area and travels the country performing with his all star band, employing local musicians from most towns they visit. The line-up is not always the same, but every time they play you hear blues by the best. Friday’s show at Legends will feature Jackie Don Loe, a guitarist whose take on the old classics breathes modern life into old blues. He hosted the Dallas “Sunday Blues Happening” for years, and was featured in the documentary “Blues Conundrum” in 2013. James Curtis, a long-time musician’s advocate keeps the beat. Rounding out the trio on bass will be local Zack Bramhall, the Eureka bluesman with velvet gravel vocals. Zack comes from a family of musicians and grew up playing the Texas blues scene. A Barflies gig usually features an extra “fly” or two who show up to play along for a few songs, many times local song belter Lynne Sterling will make an appearance – always a treat.
