An example for many

Editor,

A voice has gone silent in our community. Trella Laughlin’s voice has been a presence here for many years. She fearlessly wrote many Letters to the Editor about local and national news.

A warrior for individual rights and social justice, she would point out where faults lay in our democracy.

She was an airline hostess and a teacher. While living in Austin she produced a regular show about women in trouble, as well as those engaged in improving their communities. It was on Public Access television. I remember watching it in the late ‘70s and ‘80s, never suspecting that I would later meet her.

Quick to laugh, sharp witted and well read, she loved having friends over to sit on her and Marie’s porch to talk and debate. She was an example for many; fierce, outspoken and full of love for her community.

A Eureka treasure is silent, letting our voices be heard as we give her tribute.
