Editor,
When I was teaching in Europe, I visited the concentration camp at Dachau, near Munich.
The gas chamber was beyond evil! To get there, you walked across a lovely Tyrolean wooden bridge banked by lovely flowers into a “shower” that had faucets, soap dishes, and drains. Zyklon B, a pesticide gas created by a German Nobel Prize winner and made by the Farben Company, was piped into the “shower” and Jews, homosexuals, Socialists and other resisters of the Nazis, were almost immediately murdered.
A Nazi swastika was painted onto one of the walls of a school in Eureka Springs. Creeping Fascism! Dachau was not built and operated in a day. This insidious anti-Semitic act is just the beginning.
Trump wants to bus innocent immigrants to “sanctuary cities” and dump them there. Trump and his racist allies hate people of color and even though Trump’s son-in-law is Jewish, my Jewish friend says, “He gives Jews a bad name” in his being a slum landlord, and a collaborator with Saudi Arabia and other countries ruled by tyrants.
I think the good people of Eureka should: 1) Ask the council to pass a resolution renouncing anti-Semitism and acts of racism spray-painted anywhere, and 2) Ask the council to pass another resolution declaring Eureka Springs a “sanctuary city” welcoming immigrants.
We must speak up and demand that hatred will not represent our town. Thank you.
