Airport leases likely to be raised

The Carroll County Airport Commission met last week with a light agenda, and commissioners took the opportunity to discuss revisions to leases.

In the past, the airport entered into many underpriced hangar leases that left the airport without operating funds, but in recent years commissioners have worked to bring leases up to regional standards. In addition to the low rates, the leases carried a variety of terms and requirements. The CCAC hopes to create a standard lease. The commission has also compared rates at other airports in the region.

On the subject of leases, commissioners also discussed the question of listing the planes sited at the airport. Those leasing hangars would not have to comply, but listing the planes on site would benefit the airport. The number of aircraft based at an airport is a factor in determining grants.

In other business:

  • With the budget process approaching, the commissioners discussed including a contingency fund in the 2022 budget. They discussed projects for the coming year, including the acquisition of another courtesy car.
  • Breakfast at the monthly Fly-Ins has been offered for a donation of $5, but with rising prices, the commissioners increased the requested donation to $10. They also discussed limiting the fundraisers they have offered during the Fly-Ins, so pilots do not feel overwhelmed by money requests.
  • Consulting Engineer Dan Clinton did not attend this meeting, but continues to work on finding a land acquisition firm.
  • The Airport Manager’s report noted that runway lighting fixtures which had been replaced sold for $923. The report noted that September’s Fly-In was canceled because of weather, but another event was scheduled for Oct. 16.
