Airport grant will fix up hangar

At the March 2 Carroll County Airport Commission meeting, which was the rescheduled February meeting, Manager Michael Pfeifer announced the Arkansas Department of Aeronautics had awarded CCA a grant for $50,000 to refurbish the 60×60-ft. hangar on the south side of the property. Commissioners discussed getting bids for a sturdy steel frame for the door right away so renovation could begin. Besides the hydraulic door and frame, other improvements will include LED lighting, insulation and an electrical wiring upgrade.

Commissioners were confident the hangar, once refurbished, would house two planes comfortably, maybe three, for steady additional revenue for CCA.

Lessees get electrical charge

Commissioners approved two changes to all hangar leases. Regarding electrical usage, leases were amended to state the lessee will arrange with the utility company to place an assigned electrical meter in the lessee’s name, will pay the bill for electrical use in the hangar when it is due, and be responsible for light bulbs. Also, any outside tie-downs exceeding 30 days would be assessed an outside tie-down fee.

Manager’s report

Pfeifer reported five individuals were on the waiting list for hangar rental, and he gets calls regularly inquiring about space. During January, there were 54 operations at CCA, more than a third which fueled. The January 19 “Eat some chili, get some gas” fly-in met with inclement weather, so only 10 planes flew in. However, about 50 supporters came out and CCA cleared $198. Also, on the evening of Feb. 14, a Citation Bizjet landed, deplaned passengers, and immediately departed.

Next meeting will be Friday, March 16, at 12 p.m.
