Airport delving for grant money

Engineer and consultant Dan Clinton presented the Carroll County Airport commission with a draft of his “Request for Statement of Qualifications for Aviation Master Plan Services” to pursue a grant for an updated Master Plan. He said last Friday that by the September meeting, commissioners should be ready to post the RFQ in a state newspaper so they can identify a qualified party to prepare the Master Plan. Clinton will write a grant proposal for federal funds to pay for it.

Regarding the ever-increasing gap around the taxiway that needs filling in, Clinton said it should be a county maintenance issue. He will try to get a 50-50 grant from State Aeronautics to pay for it. He will also try for a grant to re-seal the ramps in front of hangars because some are eroding.

Berryville Chamber offers air support

Steve Johnson, executive director of the Berryville Chamber of Commerce, offered support of activities at CCA, saying the airport is vital to economic development of the area. He said he envisions cyclists headed for the new downhill trails at Lake Leatherwood City Park first landing at CCA, and promised to post photos of the airport on the Berryville website.
