Airport appoints land acquisition group

The new manager at Carroll County Airport continues to draw high praise from members of the airport commission. Alan Hoos attended his second commission meeting on July 15, and Chair Dave Teigen especially noted the way Hoos aggressively tackled the job from his first day. Hoos was also singled out for his attention to detail.

Consulting Engineer Dan Clinton confirmed that plans to purchase land are currently on hold and suggested the formation of a land acquisition committee within the group. Teigen and commissioners Jimmy Kelley and Chase Tresler will work with Clinton to consider land acquisition options. Clinton also gave an update on a project to surface apron areas.

In other business:

  • Commissioner Morris Pate asked to place on item on the August 19 agenda to discuss connecting to the municipal water system. Hoos will research the issues prior to that meeting.
  • Hoos said the terminal building does not have smoke alarms. Kelley explained that code does not require smoke alarms in such buildings, but that smoke alarms would still be a good idea, and the others agreed. Hoos will seek prices, and the item will appear on the August 19 agenda.
  • Commissioners approved the purchase of a new desktop computer and a printer/scanner/copier. The airport manager had a $500 limit for purchases without commission approval, and that limit was raised to $1,000.

* Repairs are needed on the lights on the north runway approach, and Hoos will contact an electrician for a bid. The commissioners expect to approve a bid by email, to speed the process.

  • Hoos gave an update on the condition of the two courtesy cars parked at the airport. The Tahoe needs a new front end, and the cost of repairs on both vehicles would exceed their value. The commissioners agreed to the idea of trading both vehicles in for one new vehicle. Since the courtesy vehicles are county property, their disposition will have to follow proper procedures.
  • Hoos will seek bids for needed repairs to the fuel system before the Aug. 19 meeting.
