Editor,
The home the Kurds had made under our protection, fighting for us, was apparently given away by Trump in a phone call with Erdogan, the dictator he was flirting with that week. In return for what?
As the tragic consequences unfold of our abandonment of the Kurds, we see what happens when practically unlimited power is given to a completely inadequate man, a commander-in-chief who is not even in command of himself.
As he fails to comprehend the consequences of his acts, his intellect, never strong, collapses in a scandalous dementia spewn forth in torrents of profanity-laced ravings.
Erdogan of Turkey is one of many dictators Trump likes. One suspects that what lies behind his somewhat girlish fascination with thugs-in-power is the pathetic yearning of a pasty rich boy to be liked by the real tough guys in the neighborhood.
Whatever his impulse or motivation, he is acting out in our name.
We are doing this after years of using the Kurds to fight ISIS for us. The Kurds have borne the brunt of the deadly struggle with our assistance. Now, with no warning whatsoever, we invite the Turks to drive them from their homes.
This is how nations develop reputations – who will ever trust us again? Would you?
