Editor,
On our sunny Sunday afternoon after the thunder sleet storm this week, husband and dog and I headed out for Leatherwood Park for a walk. From the ballfields we thought we might cross the creek at the Sloryde crossing, but the water was too high. Beautiful and noisy, but too high.
So, we opted for a stroll on the walking path around the ballfields. What a treat it was to find that the new bridge, located above the waterfall, is finished! Standing on the bridge and looking upstream and downstream, watching and listening to the creek and the waterfall, what a joy that was. It is a beautiful view.
Those wanting to reach the water can still access the creek there. It is the best of both worlds. Many thanks to the Parks and Recreation staff for making the grant application to the Walton Family Foundation, and to that foundation for granting the funds.
The bridge provides pedestrian access to the Miners’ Rock trail, and bike access to the downhill trails parking at the ballfields. It seemed like a long time coming, but now there it is! A long-term steel and concrete investment in the community. Thank you Parks and Recreation.
